GTA 6: Everything We Know (Release Date, Price, PC, Map)

Quick answer: Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It costs $79.99 (Standard) or $99.99 (Ultimate), pre-orders are open now, and digital copies can pre-load from November 12. There is no PC version announced, no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no online mode at launch. The game is set in the State of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, with Vice City at its center and two playable leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

This is a desk-research explainer, not a review: nobody outside Rockstar and a handful of previewers has played the game yet. Every claim below comes from Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony or reporting that quotes them directly, and we label anything that is only reported or rumored. Facts are current as of September 24, 2026, and we will update this page as launch gets closer.

GTA 6 release date: November 19, 2026

The date on the official site is November 19, 2026, and Take-Two has kept repeating it: in its May 2026 annual report, again in its August 7, 2026 earnings release, and in Rockstar's own statement about the August leaks. On that August call, CEO Strauss Zelnick tied the company's whole fiscal-year forecast to the launch, reiterating a net bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion "with these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI."

It took two delays to get here:

With pre-orders live, a Netflix premiere done, a soundtrack album dated and Rockstar describing the game as "nearly" finished in August, a third delay looks unlikely. But Rockstar has slipped this game before, so treat any date as firm only once it ships.

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official site carries a "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" badge from Sony's marketing deal, but the Xbox version launches the same day.

• PS4 and Xbox One: No. PlayStation's FAQ says it "will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles."
• PS5 Pro: The PlayStation Store labels it "PS5 Pro Enhanced." Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that enhancement is, so ignore leaked "4K" or "60fps on Pro" claims for now.
• Frame rate: At the August press previews, Rockstar North's Rob Nelson said the game targets 30fps on consoles at launch, and Rockstar would not commit to a 60fps performance mode. This comes from preview coverage, not an official blog post.
• Physical copies: Retail boxes are reported to be a download code in a box, with no disc. Rockstar's edition selector lists Standard as "Digital or Code in Box."

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch, and no PC version has been announced. The closest thing to a statement came at Take-Two's stockholder meeting on September 17, 2026, where Zelnick said the company releases on platforms with a meaningful audience and that PC is "more and more important" to it. He gave no date.

History is the only guide: GTA V reached PC about 18 months after its console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about 13 months after. If Rockstar follows that pattern, a PC release in 2028 would be a reasonable guess, and it is only a guess. Ignore any listing or headline claiming an official PC date: we checked, and none exists.

Rockstar describes the Ultimate content as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action" threaded through the story. Named items include a '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, a '95 Grotti Cheetah, the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, and several shops and salons. Early estimates from Sensor Tower suggest about 89% of pre-orders are the Ultimate Edition, so most people seem to be paying the extra $20.

The $399.99 collector's box went up for pre-order on September 24. It is themed on Leonida's in-game TV show Macca the Gator: a Macca figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, pins, stickers and a double-sided map poster. It ships from November 19. You still have to buy the game separately.

Pre-orders, pre-load and bonuses

• Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 at midnight local time.
• Pre-load starts November 12, 2026: the PlayStation Store lists a 7-day pre-load for both editions.
• Pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack, a two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage, Ocean Beach-style retro outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern. You get it with any purchase made before November 20, 2026.
• PlayStation extra: PlayStation Store digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+. It auto-renews, so set a reminder if you don't want to keep paying.

Take-Two hasn't published pre-order numbers. Zelnick called them "unprecedented and astonishing" on the August 7 earnings call, and added that "we just don't know how it'll translate into sales." Newzoo estimated about $260 million in the first week. The bigger figures you may see online (4.77 million copies, half a billion dollars) have no traceable source.

Setting: Vice City and the State of Leonida

The tagline is "Vice City, USA." GTA 6 returns to Rockstar's Miami parody for the first time since 2006's Vice City Stories, this time as the heart of a whole state, Leonida, which is Florida with the serial numbers filed off. The official site names six regions:

• Vice City: the neon-soaked metropolis
• Leonida Keys: the island chain to the south
• Grassrivers: the Everglades stand-in
• Port Gellhorn: a faded Gulf Coast town
• Ambrosia: sugar-refinery country inland
• Mount Kalaga National Park: forests and trails to the north

How big is the map? Rockstar hasn't published a square-mile figure. At the August previews, Rob Nelson gave comparisons instead: the world is roughly twice the size of GTA V's and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, and Vice City alone is about twice the size of Los Santos. Nelson also told The New York Times that his own playthrough of the main story plus some optional objectives took about 80 hours.

Characters

The leads are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple the trailers frame as a modern Bonnie and Clyde. Lucia is the first female protagonist of a 3D-era mainline GTA, and her official bio starts her in Leonida Penitentiary. You can switch between the two for most of the game, much like GTA V's three-character swap.

The official site also introduces Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the rap duo Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder.

Rockstar hasn't named its cast. The only confirmed voice actor is Stephen Root, who told the Associated Press himself that he is in the game (coverage says he plays Brian Heder). The names going around for Jason's and Lucia's actors are fan identifications, not official.

What we know about gameplay

Most of what we know comes from the 26-minute Extended Look and the previews that went live alongside it. Coverage of that showcase describes:

• Switching between Jason and Lucia in seconds
• Small-scale robberies (a gas station, a restaurant) alongside larger heists
• More involved car theft, including key cloners for cars with electronic locks
• A six-star wanted system and a "Criminal Profile" that tracks your reputation
• Body changes from fitness and eating
• Side activities: scuba diving, basketball, dirt bikes, fan boats, a shooting range, even backyard wrestling
• Snapmatic as an in-world social app, with the phone treated as a physical object

Two statements from Rob Nelson got the most attention: the single-player game has no microtransactions, and no generative AI was used to make it. One caveat: the PlayStation Store listing still shows the generic "In-game purchases optional" tag, so we'll check again at launch.

Is there GTA 6 Online?

Not at launch. PlayStation's FAQ calls GTA 6 "a single-player experience," and Zelnick said in September that "there's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch." Rockstar declined to discuss a new GTA Online in previews, and says the current GTA Online will keep being supported.

The one hint at timing came from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who told Bloomberg in September that he expects GTA 6 multiplayer "next year," meaning 2027. Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed that.

Trailers and the Netflix premiere

Rockstar has released two numbered trailers and one long gameplay showcase. There is no "Trailer 3": the August showcase is officially called An Extended Look.

• Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023): released a day early after it leaked. It drew 90.42 million YouTube views in 24 hours, a record for a non-music video.
• Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025): captured entirely in-game on PS5. Rockstar counted 475 million views across platforms in its first 24 hours.
• An Extended Look (August 27, 2026): about 26 minutes, all in-game footage. It premiered on Netflix at 3pm ET, then reached YouTube and Rockstar's site six hours later.

The soundtrack album

On September 17, Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original tracks out November 19. Six singles are already out, including Travis Scott's "RHYNO," Morgan Wallen's "Last Thing You Need," Rauw Alejandro's "Macacoa 2000," Yung Lean with Future and Metro Boomin on "That's It," and, oddly, Keith Richards covering "Bright Lights, Big City."

Leaks, lawsuits and the road here

GTA 6 has leaked more than almost any game in history. In September 2022, a hacker posted about 90 clips of early development footage; Rockstar confirmed the breach, and a Lapsus$-linked UK teenager was later given an indefinite hospital order. Trailer 1 leaked too, which is why it came out a day early.

In October 2025, Rockstar fired 34 staff. The IWGB union called it union busting, while Take-Two said the firings were "for gross misconduct," relating to confidential information shared on Discord. Then in mid-August 2026, an anonymous leaker calling themselves "CyberLeek" began posting gameplay, map images and story spoilers. Take-Two filed subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord on August 20 to identify them, and Rockstar called the leaks "heartbreaking for our team." If you want to go in fresh, be careful with GTA 6 search results and social feeds until November.
